Received a registration report from the American Kennel Club

I'm disappointed to say I just received a registration report on my puppies. Only 2 from Callie/Chip's litter have been registered.......not good out of 8. In Rhett/Glory litter only my puppy has been registered. I cannot tell you how important this is to me. I am attempting to obtain AKC Breeder Award of Merit status, and they want all puppies in a litter registered.

I provided them, at their request with names of all the new owners of those puppies. I'm sure the AKC will be contacting each of you in order to have your puppy registered. Please do so asap; I would really appreciate your help on this.

Thanks in advance...................

A belated Happy Birthday to all my Callie/Rhett Puppies

Sorry but once again my computer was down.......just returned to me tonight. Yesterday, May 14th was 5 month birthday for Callie/Rhett puppies. It seems like yesterday that I was taking care of all those babies.

A special thanks to all of you who e-mailed Happy Mother's Day wishes to me,,,,,,,,,,,,for being your puppy's Mom I loved all of them, and rest assured, I do feel like their Puppy Mom........they are members of our family.

Rhett, sire to those puppies ended up in sick bay at the dog handler's yesterday..........bordatella struck the kennel, and poor Rhett became very ill.....pneumonia in one lung. Much better today after going on strong antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs, I was so worried about him. I could care less that he won't be shown for a couple more weeks, I just want to be sure my boy is well. Normal temp today so I'd say he is going forward. I'll keep you posted. No showing for him this weekend while he is still "on the mend".

Stimson, my other darling little guy........more news...........he and I had a private time today.....at a school games event at MSSU (local university) where he received lots of attention from the children. This is so good for him to socialize with more children, and I'm proud to say he continues to be such a little gentleman. He never jumped on any of the kids and was so gentle. We then joined a friend with her puppy to dine al fresca at Chick Filet's (lol), and he quietly laid down by the side and people watched. As a special treat on our way home I took him for a Puppy Cup at local custard store. The girls already know him as do the UPS Store people who miss him when he remains at home. Quite the popular guy I'd say. One of my puppy owners, "Duncan's" family told me Duncan goes everywhere with them and anywhere they'll let him into. I was surprised the list included Home Depot and Lowes...........good to know. We'll be heading there soon. I cannot short change my girls; they need special attention, too.

Rhett will be shown at the St. Louis shows in 2 weeks at Gray's Summit, Purina Farms, then he'll head to the Illinois Airedale Specialty in Grayslake, IL............hoping to see him there. Handled by Jody Pacquette and Leonardo Garcini, top notch handlers who were certainly on the ball when he bacame ill, wasting no time in getting him good veterinary care.

It's hard to believe they are already 5 months of age. My little darlings are nearly grown up. My Stimson is one of them, and I am so proud of him in so many ways. Yesterday, we had a vet visit, and the techs said "he is so proper", quite a compliment to receive for a 5 month old male puppy. At one time I thought he was my most difficult puppy in Callie's litter...........not so any longer. I can have him off lead outside, and he always stays nearby. He comes when called, and is such a little gentleman. I'll try to get some video of my boy today to celebrate his 5th month on earth. Love to all my other puppies, too!

Grandpa Imus would be proud of all of you. He was also a little gentleman besides being a great stud dog.

Unexpected as it was this morning, I just heard from one of Rhett's handlers this a.m. Jody Pacquette says Rhett is ready to begin showing now. His first shows will be in 2 weeks at Jackson, TN. Wish I could be there; We'll see if I can get R to dog sit for me if I go. He has little if any interest in attending dog shows, just hitting golf balls (lol). Jody stated Rhett seems like a different dog, gained weight which we wanted, and now is a go!

Wish Rhett lot of luck at the shows! Missing you Rhett, here at Arley Hall.

I just returned from visiting my niece, Holly and her family over Easter, staying on a few more days to catch up with friends/dogs, too. What fun it was to be back in my hometown; I miss the Chicago area so very much. Visited with Lulu everyday since she lives with Holly, and I got over to visit Gertie (aka Tia) at Monica Fritch's place. It was so good to see those little girls.

Finally sending off the AKC applications to all the new puppy owners of Glory's litter and Callie's litter. If you don't receive yours by next week, please let me know. I'm mailing them tomorrow at UPS store. I apologize for the delay, but at last you'll have them. Please sent your applications for registration in to AKC. If you don't it looks bad for me; they'll think I still own all these dogs. I would really appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Thanks in advance.

Tomorrow is a big day here...........Stimson comes home from Boarding/Training where he has been the last 3 weeks. I'm sure my little guy will be a proper gentleman now (lol). In all honesty, I miss the boy so much. It has seemed so quiet here with only the girls; I think we're due for some puppy activity.

News that Glory may be a grandma came in this weekend. "Georgia" (Imus/Glory daughter) was bred to one of Jean Surfus's dogs, "Cooper" so we're very excited about that. breeding. Cooper is such a handsome dog and of good size, too, not to mention, he's a big winning champion. . I'm keeping my fingers crossed as is Mike Regnier who owns Georgia. Mike and I go back a long way.........both were showing bitches with the same handler many years' ago. I'll be going to evaluate the puppies once they are 8 weeks of age, and I plan to keep one of Georgia's little ladies, too.

I also attended an art exhibit last Thursday at Harper College in Palatine, IL. The daughter, Samantha Vandeman, of a good airedale friend of mine was a prominent exhibitor in the exhibit. I've known Samantha since she was a little girl, and you can see some of her work right here on this website...Callie's early pics taken at Halloween are those she took. Samantha obtained her Master's degree at Boston College School of Art and now teaches at an art college in Aurora, IL. I am proud to own 3 pieces of her work personally, especially since she is quite a renown photographer in the U.S. Her Mom, Pat Vandeman and I are both airedalers going back at least 20 years. Pat no longer owns the "King of Terriers", instead switching to a border collie named Becky. Cute, but not an airedale (lol). It was a wonderful exhibit, and I was so pleased to have seen both Pat and Sam again.

Just trying to catch up around here so that when Rhett is a go in the show circuit, I can go to some of his shows. Off to bed now after a long day here. I drove through a messy rain from Chicago Sunday night, fearing I wouldn't make it home safely, but here I am. All ended well this time, but I am still trying to catch up physically.

Just returned from Stimson's trainer's place and working with him, too. I couldn't believe my eyes; my little guy has become such a gentleman, so focused, so wanting to please Donna, and all in two weeks' time. Donna is doing a great job, and it is worth every penny. This will make him so famly friendly, and his handlers will apreciate his training in the future, too. I was so impressed! If I can afford to send my future dogs to her, I will do so. Missing Stimson, but he is already halfway through his training today.

I mentioned to Donna I wanted to accomplish door respect, come when called in particular, two items which can save a dog's life one day. Well, he seems to have that already. He did it with me today, too. Now, if I can only get in particular Glory to do the same thing. I know I will need to work with each girl separately in order to accomplish this.

Remembering what a breeder once told me.........you get the dog you deserve! In essence, it you take time for training, you will have the dog you deserve. I'm so proud of Stimson!

My Arley Hall Gang dwindles in number..........................

Being a breeder is a heartbreaking avocation at times, like this weekend. Today my MercyMe left to live with a wonderful gal, Janie James and her son, Johnny. Mercy has lived here for 3 years, so she definitely has been a beloved member of our family. I couldn't stop crying this morning with her departure so imminent. Mercy has never really enjoyed living around a few other dogs and mainly chose to be with me, ignoring them most of the time. There were times when she ran with the others, but those times have been few and far between. My gift to her is a loss to me..........I love her dearly and always will. At least she will live very nearby, and I think Janie and I will become good friends; we instantly liked each other, and Mercy has taken to Janie, too. Janie is dedicated and has made wonderful arrangements for Mercy while she is at her part time job during the week. I've never seen a boy so anxious to take his dog home. Johnny came into the house this morning, put the leash on Mercy, outside for a walk, and when we came outside, Johnny and Mercy were already situated in the car....ready to leave. I think Johnny feared I might take her back inside. Believe me, I wanted to, but she is now with them, and we will see each other often. Best of luck and happiness Mercy! See you soon.

Gertie leaves tomorrow morning, too. I can only handle so many dogs here, and I chose to keep Stimson. It was a tough decision for me, one which I labored over muc h of the time. She is going to live with my friend Monica Fritsche, Elmhurst, IL, who also owned another Arley Hall Airedale in the past. I guess it was fortuitous when Monica just happened to contact me asking if I decided to keep any of the girl puppies for myself. I had just decided that morning that Gertie will leave us. Gertie will be so well cared for, loved, and doted upon by Monica and her two daughters. She'll have a wonderful time getting so much attention there. After all, she has really been a house dog here........I have piddle marks to prove it. Time to clean the carpets again; it's always that way with puppies. I travel back home to suburban Chicsgo frequently so I will be able to see my girl often. Love you, Gertie Greenbean!

That leaves Stimson here as the Lone Ranger among puppies, and he is leav ing Monday for 3 weeks of dog training at Donna Pashia's Dog training center. I know Donna from my local kennel club, and I trust her implicitly with my dogs. She is a compassionate, gentle trainer who uses reward/clicker methods. By the way, she sure knows how to Freestyle with her dogs. We talked today about knowing if Stimson is ready for this; I worry so much about all my dogs. She told me she'll be able to tell by the middle of the week if he is mature enough to handle the training. Good luck, big boy!

So, as you can see, it is a difficult time for me here. Of course, now Glory B., Callie, and Haven will be here alone with me............a girl's time if you will. We'll do fine, but I will miss those who are gone. As if I weren't stressed out enough, I was driving to do an errand after Janie left, and I received a violation for speeding.........typical.........when things are bad, sometimes they get worse.

MercyMe leaves for her new home Saturday

I have found the perfect home for my girl, MercyMe. Every dog does not do well in a multi-dog environment; that is the case with Mercy. I'll be heartbroken when she leaves since I am very attached to her, but I know it is best for her emotionally to go with Janie James. Janie only works part time, loves Mercy already, and Mercy jumped into Janie's car to leave with her when I was outside. I know Mercy was probably assuring me that it is okay with her to go with Janie. Janie returned again Saturday to introduce her son, Johnny, along with Johnny's Dad to Miss Mercy. All were madly in love with her. I know the one on one Janie can give and no other dogs around will be perfect for Mercy. Besides, Janie lives nearby so I'll be able to visit Mercy frequently. Gosh, I will be missing my girl!

This morning I read about a little incident involving a "Rhett" puppy named "Alfie" owned by Dick and Carol Simpson of Katy, TX; I laughed and laughed. Rhett as some of you might remember from my videos, is a first-class remote stealer. i think I paid out several times for DISH remotes before I took out insurance for replacements. It seems Alfie, a Rhett son, is doing the same. Let the fun begin..........and keep those remotes out of an airedale's reach. I try to do so, but sometimes I slip up. I'm unsure of what the big attraction is with them..........something with the electrical; current maybe?

I've heard from several new owners about their puppies beginning training classes............good to hear it. I, myself, am thinking about sending Stimson (now weighs in at 24 pounds) to a puppy boarding facility for his training so I'll have time to work with Gertie solo. Before long a now 24 pound puppy, feisty, too, will be difficult to handle without training. Hope all your puppies are doing well. I know my niece, Holly, told me "Lulu" began her classes this past Tuesday along with her kids, Logan and Lauren who are so eager to begin working with our girl. Lulu will be a star in her class I predict........after all, she's an Arley Hall Gal (lol)! Had another report stating Lulu behaved perfectly at the vet.this week, also.

Sorry I haen't written much lately, but betwen recuperating from raising 15 puppies and an early allergy season, I have been pretty wiped out physically. Just plodding along and attempting to get back on track. I think the AKC registration applications arrived here yesterday, so I'll work on sending them to you this weekend. I'll let you know when I do send them out.

I did hear from handler Leonardo Garcini about Rhett. He told me Rhett needs to gain weight.......only weighed 5l pounds, so he does since his Grandpa Imus weighed 57 pounds when he showed; he looked like a little kid to me, too. So Rhett is on a conditioning, weight gaining regimen right now and of course, probably stripped down to pracitcally naked skin while new hair coat is growing in. Just part of the grooming for show preparations. It is calmer here without Mr. Rhett as Leonardo calls him, but I sure miss my boy. It will take a good 3 to 4 months to prepare Rhett for beginning his show career...........let the pockets empty of money!

I took Stimson and Gertie in for their 3rd puppy vacs.........at which time my vet asked me to bring them in for a 4th. No, no, I thought...........I defer to Dr. Jeanne Dodd's vaccination protocol, and I do not over vaccinate my puppies. After all, I want them to live long, healthy lives. And then he wanted to give them a rabies vac that same day.......no, no, I said i'll bring them in closerr to 6 months of age, and I won't have anything else administered at that time either. Please be proactive with your puppy and his/her vet vacs. Too many vets give too many vaccinations, including the vet I use. Please, for the sake of your puppy's health, be proactive and speak out.....after all, you are only advocate your puppy has.I've seen puppies go into vaccinosis from having too much vaccine administered at one time. Don't always think your vet is the absolute authority on these matters........so many are definitely behind the time of current thinking .

I drove to St. Louis on Saturday to transfer Lulu to my niece and her family and give Rhett to Leonardo Garcini to begin working on Rhett's coat for conformation showing. I miss both of them so much right now; it was a long, lonely ride back to Carl Junction Sunday evening for me. Leonardo said it will probably take longer to get Rhett in condition than it will take to finish his championship (lol).........I believe that considering the wooly look of him. He is a handsome devil though, and he is also a head strong boy. I don't think I could handle him myself.........so full of airedale spirit, spunk, and great attitude for showing. Wishing the best of luck to him in his career! Here's hoping he is adjusting to living away for a while. It's funny, the think all the other dogs miss him, too.........dynamics have changed here.

Our little puppy girl, "Lulu" is headed to becoming a Chicagoan. When my niece Holly and great niece Lauren visied last weekend, Lulu just plucked their hearts. They loved her so much so she is going to live with them in Barrington, IL. Holly and I will co-own Lulu for I still believe she has great show potential. I'm still hoping she will be shown one day.. Until then, she can have the life of a true "couch potato" and be spoiled rotten there. I know she will get lots of one on one attention, and Lauren loves her so much. She captured their hearts, and I will miss her so much. I've been working on housetraining her so they may be lucking out; she is doing very well.........only one accident here today. Of course, once Lulu leaves, I sitll need to train Stimson and Gertie........so much work, but airedales are SO smart!

Some info you may not know about DE (diatomaceous earth)

DE is something many breeders use on all their dogs.........puppies and adults. It must be human grade though, not the kind used in swimming pools DE is composed os animal shells, and it's intro into the gastroiintestinal tract eliminates parasites worms, , coccidia, and giardia if present. My puppies have been checked for coccidia, but I understand in many stubbon cases, it is DE which is used most effectively to eliminate the pesty coccidia. You can order DE on the internet, and even you, a human can use it, too. You won't have worms if you use it, nor will your dogs.

Yes, you can add canned pumpkin to firm up an otherwise loose stool, but it might be worth it trying DE with your puppy or adult dog. I personally have used it myself since I handle so many puppies and engage in perpetual cleanup.

Thought all of you would want to know about this miracle item! Let me know if you try it.

Only Puppy Remains from Glory's itter

Only my little girl, "Milly" remains here from Glory's litter of puppies. Wondering if Glory will notice since she even nursed all her puppies this a.m............such a great Mom! I've moved "Stimson" and "Gertie" in with her, "Googins", too, since he leaves tomorrow as well. I am certain they'll all be happier together today since 4 puppies left for new homes today.

Check out the new families on the Glory's litter link for more info about each of them. I know these puppies will be spoiled and loved by these families. They are such sweet puppies, and my life will still not be a "cake walk", with 3 puppies here for further show evaluation. It's a far cry from the 15 I have raised over the past l0.5 weeks though.

Thank goodness today the weather cooperated, and the puppies were able to play outside in the sunshine, the first time in 3 days. Believe me when I say they, too, were having "cabin fever" staying inside. Tonight bring perhaps a first snow for these puppies to see; time will tell if the MO weather forecast is accurate; many times it is not.

Last puppy to leave from Callie's litter, "Googins" leaves tomorrow. I'll miss you, Googins.

More puppies left today

I always have mixed feelings when the puppies leave; it is indeed a bittersweet time for me Because I had 2 littrers (unusual for me) this time, this has been a long haul for me to care for singlehandedly. We are getting through it okay, and by Monday all puppies scheduled to leave will be gone to their new homes. I keep in touch with new owners because "I just don't sell puppies" is what I tell new owners. I want to know how the puppies are adjusting to their new homes, environment, family, training classes, housebreaking, and those irksome puppy behaviors (i.e. mouthing). This can be a difficult, frustrating time for new owners when shoes are chewed, glasses, other belongings left around. I speak from personal experience. I frequently say having a puppy around forces you to have better housekeeping (lol). My husband has had so many of his belongings destroyed because he never puts things away; I don't have much sympathy for him on that note. I keep hoping he'll learn, but you cannot teach an old dog new tricks so it is said.

So far I have had nothing but good reports on the puppies who have left. Only a mention today of one "mushy" stool. It could be related to the transition to a new home, maybe that particular puppy doesn't tolerate the food as well as others, or who knows?........puppies pick up items in their mouths all the time. My recommendation......watch carefully....add some canned pumpkin to firm up the stool, and if this continues, we can discuss changing food.......gradually, of course. Remember, not every food works on all puppies, even in the same litter. It's difficult for me to know here since there are so many in their puppy run. I have had a stool check run just last week..........results.....no parasites, no coccidia, and no giardia. Keep on top of this though, and we'll find the right food together. Other fooods I recommend and I include.........Wellness kibble, NOW (a newer grain-free puppy food),l Flint River Ranch, and Solid Gold (must use C-pack with it to be nutritious enough) to mention a few. I do not recommend Iams or Science Diet foods for the record. Go to Whole Dog Journal to check out their recommendations for quality foods. They rank kibbles in February of every year. Your dog is worth spending a few more dollars monthly in order to extend his life and keep him healthy. I'm sure you'll agree. If one cannot spend at least $l.00/daily, then including a family dog is not recommended.

One more thing............please let me know what you name you dog if you change name I have given him/her. I always want to know their names. Funny, the first two puppies still have the names I gave them in the litters.

All of you will register your dogs with the AKC. I know most of you have/are purchasing a companion dog, not one which will be shown on the conformation circuit, but please............reigster your dog with the American Kennel Club. I say that because the dog registration is a critical source of revenue for AKC; they need that source desperately from registering these dogs. It is the AKC which puts on all of the dog shows you see on television along with most every other dog show.

Oh, one more thing...........I'll get your AKC application for registration to you as soon as I have them back from the AKC. That won't be for a little while though so please don't start calling me next week (lol). I'll post on the blog when I am sending them out to you so all of you will know iin advance.

Also, when you register please use the "Arley Hall " prefix for Glory's puppies. For Callie's puppies, please use "Arley Hall Texter" as a prefix on the registered name. That 'Texter" is out of courtesy to owners/breeders of sire, "Chip", Ch. Texter Chips' Ahoy. I often tell new owners......remember, the AKC registered name can have nothing similar to the dog's call name in the registered name ......i.e. my big winning stud dog was Ch. Arley Hall A. M. Broadcast Mogul, and his call name was "Imus". Arley Hall is not a registered kennel name with the American Kennel Club, just so you know., and you do not need my permission to use it in your registration.

Again, I'm hoping all of you take the time to register your dog and obtain your own official 3 generation pedigree. I have taken a vow with the Airedale Terrier Club of America to encourage all new owners to register their dogs so please do so. It will mean a lot to me and the national airedale club, too.

I just received an e-mail from "Tompkins" aka "Murphy"'s new family, and he did great all the way from here to Tulsa Airport then on to his new home in Houston. I am relieved to say the least. I always worry about my puppies; they are so important to me as most of you already know.

Although I have placed puppies with urban dwellers in the past during my suburban Chicago days, it has been quite some time since then. This nice couple came here yesterday, and then I wondered about Murphy's schedule and care while both of them worked. This is serious business having a new puppy in your family. I was relieved to hear their plans, and I believe they will work for my boy.

Just a caution though........have a plan prepared in advance of pickiing up your puppy. Have the food purchased and all supplies in order.......bowls, leash, collar, toys, sleeping area and fleece pads for sure. Kn ow where your puppy will sleep, and be patient with him.........remember, he is a little lonely, too, leaving his familiar surroundings here. I suggested to this young couple what a St. Louis fellow did last year.....hire a pet sitter to come to your 2x;s daily at first or have a friend or family look in. A young puppy cannot hold his pottying for 8 hours; that is a given. I know that can be expensive if you must pay for it, but your puppy is well worth it, and he will adjust well.

Happy to hear things are going well with all the new owners. Let's keep up the good work. Four have gone home at this time,,,,,,,,,,many more to leave over next week. I will still have the puppies I have chosen to stay with us for possible show potential. I'll still have my everloving hands quite full (lol)!

Oops, I hear them acalling me now. It's about that time since they went down for morniig nap at 9:00. My little darling puppies. I want to get them outside again since today's weather may have a snow/rain mix this afternoon. Later.
